Using Basalt Fiber in the Infusion Process

Most boats are built out of sand. Silica is heated up and pulled into strands and woven into fiberglass cloth. The Townsend 34 is made out of volcanic rock. Basalt can be made into fibers in exactly the same way. Basalt fibers are lighter and stronger than fiberglass, and require less energy to produce (a lower carbon footprint).
